Advice

I totally forgot to ask in an earlier post, but is there anything I should be doing now before I start IVF in a couple weeks?  Any advice that you guys have would be greatly appreciated!!  Any suggestions for how to approach the first cycle or how to pass the time before stims start or how to keep stress at a minimum??

So, far I have cut out alcohol and caffeine.  Is there anything else that I need to be doing?

Thanks for your help and advice!!

  1. I have tried to fill the time leading up to my previous cycles with creative projects. It keeps my mind off of things, relaxes me, and gives me something to show for the time aside from a bucket full of needles. It's helpful to organize all the meds, A lot of people set up an area where they will do all of their injections with everything set our in easy reach - needles, alcohol wipes, sharps container, etc. I've done acupuncture for all of my cycles, and usually start it just before stims (started yesterday, day 5 of lupron). My acupuncturist yesterday also mentioned stepping up protein and iron rich foods in my diet. Oh, and if you listen to Circle & Bloom, there are a few tracks that are for before the cycle starts, so you could start listening now to get in the practice of relaxing. I think that's about all I've got! Good luck getting started!

  2. I did a lot of meditation and anything that would help me be calm. I was also ridiculously organized and had all of my meds in a particular spot.

Also, don't be hard on yourself if the meds make you a little nutty. You probably already know that, but I felt like I needed to give myself permission to be crazy. I can't wait to hear how everything goes.
